Water exercise can help with increased flexibility, strength, balance, and endurance while body weight is reduced during exercise. This decreases musculoskeletal stress and impact on joints. It is especially helpful to those with Parkinson’s disease since warm water is relaxing and allows individuals to move with buoyancy, greater mobility, and less pain. The buoyancy and cushioning effect of the water allow for freedom of movement while providing the appropriate level of resistance necessary to achieve the desired results, and creates an environment for fewer falls and less risk of injury.
